Making a racket: New frontiers of investigative journalism
Limited Capacity seats available

From the classic muckraking of Fleet Street to complex international yarns, Heidi Blake understands the scope of investigative reporting skills — and how technology and networks have given us new tools, but also made stories knottier. Her award-winning project “The Tennis Racket” was investigative reporting that exposed match-fixing at the highest levels of international tennis; a real marriage of data wizardry and old fashioned shoe-leather reporting, courting sources and trawling leaked documents. What does this work tell us about the possibilities of investigative reporting when you team up? How can time poor reporters learn to work with masses of documentation, sources and data? Q+A with Gold Walkley-winning Caro Meldrum-Hanna.

This session is presented by BuzzFeed.

Embrace digital without discarding the past
Limited Capacity seats available

Media companies need to develop business strategies to maintain and sustain their existing platforms like TV and newspapers, while at the same time developing the next digital version of their organisation. Whether your media business is news or entertainment — how can we develop smart ways to think about maximizing the value on both the traditional and digital sides? Storyful works to help the world’s top news organisations verify and access content —but also develop strategies to survive and thrive.
